About Us

The roles of school and preschool leaders have grown more complex and demanding over the last 20 years. Today, this is seen in the ever-increasing range of educational and administrative responsibilities leaders are now accountable for.

In 2001, a small group of principals recognised that the education system was changing, and leaders did not have access to the legal and employment related support they needed to be successful and supported in their role. In response to this challenge, a group of eight principals and sixty members formed the Leaders Legal Fund in 2001. Our name changed to the South Australian State School Leaders Association (SASSLA) in 2011 to reflect the continuing development of our service offerings to members.

SASSLA is now a successful and robust organisation with over 500 members. Our success has been built on our achievements in constantly improving our services and delivering positive results in advocating for the individual and collective interests of members. The recognition of our work can be seen in the rapid growth in membership numbers in recent years.

Leaders are now under the spotlight more than ever. Members have access to highly competent staff with a deep understanding of all areas of employment policy relevant to leaders and direct access to specialist legal advice when needed. We tailor our services to your needs. Being a member of SASSLA is an investment in your career in public education.
