School-Based Preschool Review

SASSLA and SAPPA (South Australian Primary Principals Association)  are collaborating to review the working conditions in school-based preschools.

SASSLA has previously undertaken instrumental work with the Preschool Directors Association to achieve additional funding to reduce the teaching time of Preschool Directors in stand-alone preschools. It is now time for SASSLA and SAPPA to jointly review the work of school leaders with a school-based preschool as staffing models have not been updated to reflect the increase in workload demands and responsibilities in managing this type of site.

Phil O’Loughlin, SASSLA’s Chief Executive, and Tobias O’Connor, President of SAPPA, have already commenced work and completed in depth interviews and data collection at five schools. They are currently reviewing this information and plan further consultations in Term 3.

SAPPA have sent a copy of a survey to all school-based preschools. We encourage all leaders of these sites to participate in the survey. The aim is to complete a final report in Term 4.

If you would like to be more involved in this important work, please contact Tobias O’Connor from SAPPA on 8463 5845 or Leanne James from SASSLA on 0412 654 817.
